WATER QUALITY

Water is scarce in Douglas County, which makes the water we do have that much more important. To address water quality concerns, the Foster Creek Conservation District (FCCD) is actively implementing riparian restoration projects throughout the county. These efforts are guided by recommendations from the Watershed Management Plan for Moses Coulee and Foster Creek Watersheds (WRIA 44 & 50) and focus on improving the overall health of local waterways. Our current projects involve planting riparian vegetation to strengthen the stream’s connection to its floodplain, enhance natural filtration, reduce turbidity, and increase shading to regulate water temperature. In addition to restoration efforts, FCCD conducts ongoing data collection and monitoring to track improvements over time. By combining strategic restoration with scientific monitoring, FCCD ensures that conservation efforts are data-driven and adaptive, helping to create cleaner, healthier, and more resilient water sources for both wildlife and the community.
